Off the Leash is a local, independent, and owner-operated shop that is committed to providing the dogs and cats in Glendale and the Northeast Los Angeles area with the best possible foods, supplements, and gear available. We are continuously striving to learn more about our pets’ health and nutrition and we only provide products that we have feverishly researched and trust. We know that feeding your pet the best food out there may not be the easiest option nor the cheapest, but we are here to present you with the most up-to-date information and the best products so that you can rest assured that you are doing your best for your pet.

Also, we're a little different...Our small shop is not your typical pet food store. We do not saturate our little space with products that we don't believe in and feel are unnecessary. Our goal is to have a place full of positive vibes that you and your pet feel comfortable in, even if that means just stopping in to say hi and grabbing a treat on your walk!

From the beginning, our mission has been to educate pet owners on natural, raw and fresh food diets for their dogs and cats. Our ultimate goal is to help build a healthier, more educated, and united community here in Glendale, starting with our fanged and furred companions. They are the heart of this operation and they deserve the very best and that is what we aim to provide.

Meet Our Team

MATT

Store owner Matt has worked in the pet industry since 2015, from managing chains to small, family-run shops in Ohio and Los Angeles. Drawn to pet nutrition because of an ailing senior Pomeranian, Max, he used natural feeding and supplements to prolong the life of his best pal. Frustrated with the industry’s lack of focus on clean feeding, he decided to start his own business wherein he could help pets of Glendale and The Valley not just survive, but thrive. Because of his years in the industry, Matt has been able to refine Off the Leash’s collection to include only the best of the best quality, while also taking affordability into account. Matt’s household consists of four very large four-legged personalities: well-known shop dog Daisy, a rambunctious young Golden Retriever; Fox, a spicy senior Pomeranian; Stretch, a sweet black cat rescued as a five-week old kitten; and the newest addition Babette, a Kitten Rescue alum who was dropped off at their gate with a litter of kittens.

IVAN

Ivan is Off the Leash’s first full-time staff member and team lead, having started his tenure in the summer of 2022. A dedicated and knowledgeable companion animal nutritionist with a passion for both human and animal health, Ivan has developed a unique understanding of wellness and nutrition via both continuing education and one-on-one relationships with clients. Having previously had little personal experience with pets, Ivan began fostering for Kitten Rescue in 2023 in order to gain firsthand knowledge of what he’d been studying. Fostering turned into pet parenthood when he decided to adopt his foster, Marnie, a young kitten who was dropped off at the shelter in a box with her mother and littermates. Now, a year later, Ivan can guide any unsure or inexperienced cat owner through feline nutrition, behaviors, and minor medical concerns. He is committed to ongoing education and works hard to stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in nutrition science. Whether working with individuals or pets, Ivan is dedicated to helping Off the Leash’s customers achieve their pet health goals through informed and personalized support.

JENNA

Off the Leash’s newest staff member, Jenna, is a cheerful and outgoing young woman with a vibrant personality and a deep knowledge of pet products and nutrition. With five years of dedicated experience in the industry, Jenna’s background equips her with a wealth of knowledge and a genuine passion for pets, ensuring that every customer receives the appropriate personalized advice and care. When she’s not brightening up the store with her infectious enthusiasm, Jenna enjoys spending time with her two French bulldogs, George and Hazel. George’s easy-going personality and Hazel’s crazy energy are a constant source of joy for Jenna. Whether she's taking them on adventures or relaxing at home, her love for her furry companions is clear in everything she does. Jenna’s commitment to customer satisfaction, paired with her upbeat attitude and hands-on pet knowledge, makes her an invaluable part of our team. With Jenna, you're not just getting a sales associate; you're getting a dedicated pet lover who truly cares about your needs.

NICOLE

Nicole came to Off the Leash in 2023 during the Hollywood writers’ strike. She didn’t have any pet industry experience, but was eager to learn as well as apply the years of on-hand dog training she had been through with her beloved rescue dog, Cody. She has since become a Certified Canine Nutritionist and specializes in helping customers treat their pets’ food- and environment-related allergies. Since starting as a Off the Leash shop dog, Cody has become the designated sampler for the allergy-sensitive dogs. Although he prefers to just stay by his mom’s side, he may give you a high five in exchange for his favorite treats. He was also the main inspiration for Cody’s Café, a coffee cart pop-up at Off the Leash, which gave proceeds to local pet rescues. Now that she’s back at her full-time Hollywood job, Nicole spends some of her spare time coordinating special events for Off the Leash, including our regular pack hikes at Griffith Park and in-store pet adoptions. The one she takes the most pride in is Picketing Pets, which kept striking workers’ pets fed for free during the 2023 Hollywood strikes.

I love coming to Off the Leash! I’ve been coming here since they opened, I always feel so welcomed here. The staff is very knowledgeable and kind. They take their time to listen to your concerns and provide great suggestions. They have such an amazing selection of all different kinds of cat foods for cats—wet/dry/raw which I love. My favorite pet store. Not only do they carry Dandylion products, but a whole host of great products geared towards those who are health conscious. If you are the type to screen ingredients in your food and products, this is the shop for you. Each and every associate I’ve spoken to is extremely knowledgeable, helpful, and kind. I’ve been considering switching my dog’s food and have found the process a bit overwhelming. Not only was I given options and honest information about each potential food option, I was also sent home with several samples to make sure my dog would find something she was happy with. This is shop and their philosophy is very much everything my household is in alignment with. I’m glad we can extend that over to our dog and also support our local businesses as well. Happy to come back as they carry my dog’s favorite brands (Dandylion grooming products, Skouts Honor) and our new favorite Goat Whip.

Visited Off the Leash looking for a specific type of pet food. The employee there was super nice and helped me find what I was looking for. They also gave me some pet food samples for my picky eater! It was a very pleasant visit and I will be back!
